This is the definition of self-help by Wiktionary.

It is called self-help for that reason, you have to help yourself. People can give you a helping hand and point you in the right direction but it comes down to you and you have to do the work in order to make your life better. Life is as easy or as difficult as YOU make it. You must realise that your in the driving seat and you control your life and what happens to it.

Many things will happen throughout your life which are out of your circle of influence, these are things that in a sense are bigger than you, things throughout the world which you can not control and which may have a big effect on your life and your surroundings. Many people blame these things for the state their lives are in, and will come up with many excuses to point the blame away from themselves. Sadly all this does is make things worse and they become more bitter towards the world, the people around them and to themselves.

So if we can’t control these events how is it we can’t blame them for our lives being the way they are? Well you have to remember that you aren’t the only person who goes through difficult times, everybody in the world goes through them and some people let them get them down and some people learn and then use them to move forward and make the best of a bad situation. Its not the problems you encounter, its how you deal with them that defines you.

We are all born with nothing and although our surroundings have a massive impact on the lives we lead, they do not define us and they can be changed if we want them to and we wish it strongly enough that we motivate ourselves to do something about it.
There are so many stories of people who go through some of the worst things imaginable and yet they don’t let it get them down, instead they decide that they are better than that and they understand that they still have a life ahead of them and they choose what that life will be. If you fall down, get back up, brush yourself off and get on with your life.

Your past shapes who you are today, there is no question of that but it does not shape who you can be tomorrow or the day after, everyday is a new day and with it becomes new possibilities. If you think possitive you will become a positive person, positive things will start to happen to you and from these you will become even more positive. Equally the effect works the same in the opposite way, think negative and your life will start to follow that pattern, you can simply change your life by changing your mindset. Whatever your past, you have a spotless future.

The past cannot be changed no matter how hard you try, all you can do is learn from your mistakes and try not to make them again. You have to put them out of your mind and get on with your life, if you dwell on them they will become you and you will continue to do the same thing again and again. Discard the negatives and learn from them, focus on the positives and become them.

Only you have the power to make your life what you want it to be, nobody else can do it for you. you have to decide what you want and then you have to go out there and get it.

There are many people who are willing to help you throughout your life, don’t be too proud to except it and don’t push them away, although your life is ultimately your responsibility and you create your journey you don’t have to travel it alone, let people help you and learn from their mistakes as well as your own.

The best way to turn your mistakes in to something positive is to use them to help other people. Always help somebody else if you can, you never know when it might be you who needs help.
If everybody helped everybody else, the world would be a much better place and all our lives would be a lot easier to live.

“The achievement of one’s aim or goal”.

This is what Wiktionary tells us is the definition of success.

So now we have the meaning, success should be easy right?

Well not exactly because now you have to find out what your aim or goal in life is and most people don’t even think about it let alone sit down and really put some thought behind it. This is why so many people are unhappy with their life. After all how can you reach your destination if you don’t know where your going.

Everybody has different ideas of what success is and you should never judge yourself on other peoples ideas and you should never judge other people on your own ideas. Lets be honest this should be an easy concept, if your idea of success is having a happy family who you look after and provide for, how can you then judge somebody Else’s success if their goal is to be the boss of the biggest company in the world.

Not only do we all have different goals but we also change our goals throughout our lives. If you complete a goal then you no longer need to continue working towards it and in your own mind you should realise that you have been successful. Equally you could decide you no longer want to achieve a goal anymore so you discard it and replace it with a new one. Take note that this is not failure, in fact in its own right it is a success because you have successfully made a decision to change your aim and you have completed that decision by making a new and improved goal that is better for you at that time of your life. The only way you can fail is if you lose sight of your goals and forget what it is you want out of life. Too many people spend their life in the rat race, they get stuck in the same routine and it becomes a habit they can’t change, and as we all know habits are very difficult to break and change is something most people stay away from.

Only you really know what your goals, aims and ambitions in life are. You can tell people and they may seem interested and even want to join your quest but they will never have the same determination and passion for your success as you do, how can they when their main aim is their own success. This is not selfish however because nobody can really help anybody if they don’t first help themselves. If your lost and you phone for help, what use is the person who comes to your rescue without a map.

Write down your goals no matter what they are, the act of writing them down is said to make them stronger in your mind and gives you less of a chance to back out of them. Your goals are the foundations to build your success, don’t let them get lost in the sands of your mind.

You can have as many goals and aims as you like but you must prioritise them, you won’t get to any destination if you keep changing your direction for another. Focus on one goal at a time, you don’t need to complete a goal until you start another but you do need to focus on one goal at a time. This is where planning and time management comes in, break your goals down in to smaller ones and then go about achieving them, if you know what your goals are throughout your day and you strive to do them in the correct order, your bigger goals will take care of themselves. Giant mountains are scaled by many small steps.

So first you need to think about your goals, where do you want to be in 5 years time?
If you don’t know this far ahead start closer to where you are now, where do you want to be in a years time, a months time, even a weeks time? Whenever just get a goal and work towards it.

Success comes to those who decide what they want and go out and get it.
