It's really very simple. I set a goal and then stay committed to doing whatever it takes to achieve this goal no matter what. It's basic but it works.

Welcome to the forum Goalguy!

It's hard to argue with success. So if that's what works for you, it's good.

My secret to success is setting many goals. If I get stuck on one goal I move on to another and then come back to that goal. I get advice from people and so forth.

I believe goals are essential to success. My method is to have clear goals, but not set them in concrete. I like to keep them flexible in case better opportunities arise.

I believe in having one primary goal, something that you're really passionate about. And then having anywhere from 2 to 10 secondary goals. The secondary goals being back-ups.

But what I really need to do is to write down all my goals. Maybe even print them out and post them somewhere in the apartment so that I am reminded daily of them.

Goal setting is extremely important when it comes to success, but without motivation, the likelyhood of achieving success is slim to none. The creation of a list, without action, holds very little meaning other than to signify wishful thinking on the part of the list creator.

I've found the opposite. I don't set goals, at least big ones. Goals are... Restrictive. They leave you with less options, less flexibility and a sense of being focussed on one thing, when life holds countless smaller joys.

Sure, I have a desire to pay off my debts (actually, my last debt gets paid off next week!), have a house, etc (just got my 'nice car'), but that's not the same thing as success.

Success is happiness. Goal setting doesn't make you happy. You complete a goal, you celebrate, you set a new one.

No, goals deter you from success. Success is in the moments. Goals are in the future (or as a result of the past). Anything which takes you away from living NOW doesn't help with success.

Good point Jeremy, I never really thought of it in that way.

It's okay. I think far too much anyways :)

It's the completion of the goals that instill the happiness, not the setting of them.

I don't have any real goals since I get bored very easily. I find everything in this life boring. Is something wrong with me or is there a cure?

Penguin,

There has to be something you enjoy doing. You're here aren't you? So this can't be too boring... Have you felt like this for a long time? Maybe you're clinically depressed?

Go out get some beers, get drunk, then you'll end up doing things you'd never dreamed of. :)

the thing is i do find new things interesting and then i will put all my energy in it. But after a while (a month) it wears off and I am very bored again. E.g Shopping, gym, movies, gardening, cross stitch, embroidery, reading, jogging, singing, dancing, swimming, play tennis, etc... now i am still looking for something new to do to overcome my boredom..
hehe ive never been drunk but it does not interess me...

hmmm...I am not sure what the answer is. Are there other things you have been wanting to try, but haven't yet?

Looks like Peinguin has just about tried everything! Maybe stick with 1 thing for a while and give it more time?
