View Full Version : Major earthquake in California? Goalguy 04-02-2004, 08:01 AM Scientists are predicting a major earthquake in SoCal within 5 months!! http://www.ktvu.com/news/2968506/detail.html danielx 04-02-2004, 08:05 AM YIKES!!!!! Antiphrasis 04-04-2004, 01:08 PM They've been saying that for years, so I'm a little bit sceptical. The newspaper sell papers by scaring its readers, it's a weird concept. They should focus more on the positive aspects, instead of the negative. Jeremy W. 04-04-2004, 10:57 PM Yeah. Still, not much you can really do about it in 5 months. I used to live in Toronto. One of the world's biggest fault series' runs right under the city. If "The Big One" ever does hit, the entire city will be gone. LBurna20770 04-04-2004, 11:03 PM I highly doubt this will happen and hope it doesn't at the same time because i plan to purchase a house in California. Jeremy W. 04-04-2004, 11:11 PM That's what Earthquake insurance is for... Assuming you survive... Antiphrasis 04-05-2004, 04:25 AM How does earth quake insurance work? If a big earth quake struck a major city the damage would be so great that the insurance companies would go bankrupt... Jeremy W. 04-05-2004, 09:14 AM At that point it becomes a government disaster relief scenario. Either way, as long as you can prove insurance you're covered. Assuming the US economy could handle it, of course. There's lots of assumptions in a situation like this, but since the insurance is less than 5$/month it's pretty reasonable. Antiphrasis 04-07-2004, 03:51 AM $5 a month is a pretty good deal if you lose your home and get a new one instead. Wonder if all the people in Kobe Japan were covered? |
