View Full Version : Membership has it's Advantages ..... Junior Member?

OK, I know there's gotta be a graduation party or something at the time, but when does one officially become a Member, a Senior Member, a "Members Only", a Diamond Member (oh, sorry, that belongs in the MLM thread :lildevil: ) a Lifetime Achievers Member, etc?

These are the default vBulletin titles. I think at thirty posts, you become a member and at 100 you become a senior member. I haven't added anything to it beyond that. I may though, and/or change those. I was thinking of doing it, so at 1000, you can have a custom title. You could of course change it in your control panel whenever you wanted to.

Really? How? I clicked on everything I could think of, and nothing came up that appeared to make that happen.I think that is an Admin / Moderator feature only. I don't think users can change their own title.

And as far as the automatic titles go, I use this for one of my boards (keep in mind that this is for a Caribbean website and I decided to use Pirates as the ranking):

0 Posts - Lurker
1 Post - Newbie
4 Posts - Landlubber
40 Posts - Mate
250 Posts - Warrant Officer
1000 Posts - Quartermaster
2500 Posts - Captain
5000 Posts - Commodore
10000 Posts - Admiral

Of course, we would have to come up with something different than what I had above, but that demonstrates how I set up the breakpoints defining when someone gets promoted to the next level.

I kept the first few ranks low numbers so that it was obvious who was contibuting and who was not. A Lurker who never posted would stand out in the member list, and a Newbie who did a post and run would be obvious too. I figured that by 4 posts, someone is going to be a contributor and gets the first non-newbie rank.

I went ahead and planned for people who obtain 10,000 posts because in most active boards, within a couple years, people have been known to achieve that.

We could set-up something similar here, just not with pirate ranks, but something else.

It can be enabled for members via the admin control panel. :)

What I'm saying is I thought about the possibility of awarding custom titles to users who reached 1000 posts. Then automatically when they hit 1000, the option would be enabled in their control panel, to put what they want in there. You don't see it in your CP, because it isn't enabled.

well ........ I think 1000 is too long, and I think 10,000 is even more-so. I like to be a little more unique, and I'm betting that others might want some further ability to be more fully expressed too.

I don't really care, this forum isn't really about custom user titles and post counts, lets stick to the important part of this thread posting about success and other related subjects.

I didn't make any definite decisions on it. 1000 seems like a good number to me, because I have seen it work well on other forums. 10,000 is definitely too high.

Whatever the number is, it needs to be high enough so that only regulars can change their title, and it should be viewed as a reward for being loyal. I think it should be 1000 posts or more, definately not less than 1000.

Also, I noticed that when you allow users to have a custom title after x amount of posts, it is useless to setup ranks above that number because noone will use them.

Too bad this forum doesn't separate title from rank. I have used a couple different forum softwares and one I administer will show both the rank and the custom title. I don't think this one can do that though.

I don't care what my rank is or gets to be... just as long as this place stays as great as it is... or even better! Just please keep the off topic thread open!
(please, please, please...) This is a great place... I came across this thread while perusing the old threads and thought I would post to it, seeing that there is an influx of TR people joining up here now. ;)

I concur with the 1000 post count.

I do also think seperating rank from title is a good idea.

Just my .02

Everybody can have a custom avatar, but it was broken for a couple days, so it wouldn't upload them.

As for custom titles, so far Coach Morse is the only member who has qualified. ;)

Most of us were over the 1K post mark over at A/R. It'll likely be the same here in no time at all...

Just my personal opinion.
