I've enjoyed reading through a series of 3 books written by Tom Butler-Bowden.
1) 50 Success Classics
2) 50 Self-Help Classics
3) 50 Spiritual Classics
Each book takes 50 of the best (author's opinion), most popular books written on each of these categories and he gives the Cliffs Notes summary and lists books similar, etc. Sort of like a book report on each of the 50 books.
It has been very helpful in narrowing down some books I'd like to read and also exposing me to other books or authors that write about the same perspectives.

Thanks for the review, the book keeps on presenting itself to me at the library and online and I have been meaning to check it out. I guess your endorsement is the clincher.

I've got the "Great Books" list by Adler and Van Doren. Even though I have many of the titles in my library and have a schedule in place for reading them, I haven't been consistent with it. I've read maybe a dozen or so thus far. 2-3 per month seems very doable.
Can't go wrong with most "classics", right? :o

With all the new books being published every year it is hard to wade through all that is out there. I usually try to find a review by someone I respect or an endorsement by someone I'm familar with before I add that book to my library.
I am always in the middle of half a dozen books so any informed review is always helpful to me.
Books usually consume most of my descretionary funds.:yikes:
