No, I don't have any pets at the moment because our property doesn't have any fencing. I would love to get a Staffordshire Terrior though.... they're my favourite breed of dog.

I live on a 2.5 acre property in a semi rural area on the coast. We always get kangaroos feeding on our lawns early in the mornings and in the evenings.... I guess I could class them as pets. :)

Scarlet,

That's so cool. I'd love to see kangaroos every morning. It would be really fantastic. Do you ever get close to them, or feed them? I'd name one of them Skippy. ;)

The only wild animals we have around here are Raccoons... and I fed them a couple of times, even if you're not supposed to... I just couldn't resist.

Yes I do get quite close to them (within a metre or so), but if I get too close it scares them and they hop away. They are still wild 'roos, so they only eat certain grasses and are not interested in anything else.

I'd say just about every Aussie pet 'roo would be named Skippy.... like most pet rabbits are named Bugs. :)

I have 2 cats... Tatt - a male cat which is a black and white short haired domestic cat, and Molly - a female fluffy long haired calico cat - she must be part persian! I also attract a lot of rabbits on my front lawn, and I call one of them Rusty. Rusty has a rust colored nose and never runs away when I go outside to give him carrots... he moves a few feet away, but stays in the yard though! None of the other wild rabbits are as brave as him.. so I count him as part of the family too! :)

Hi!

I have Daisy, going on 12 years old.

She's half cocker, half black bear. :yup:

For the last 6 months, she's lost quite a bit
of hearing. Before, as soon as I opened my
eyes in the morning, she'd be jumping all over
the place, ready to rock. Now, I get out of
bed, stomp by her cushion, rummage through
the room...and she keeps on snoring.

She also hesitates a lot before going down stairs.
And sometimes, she just sits there and stares.

But apart from that, she's full of energy, jumps
like crazy, and is always ready to go out and play.

Still, it's strange to see her sort of "lose it" at times.
Preview of things to come...

Here's a pic taken this summer:
http://i32.photobucket.com/albums/d12/funnysoul/LADYDAISY2.jpg

I always have her shaved. Much neater.

And it's a good thing too -- last week,
she got sprayed by a skunk.

It was sooooo disgusting! After the tomato juice bath,
the bathroom looked like a chainsaw massacre scene.
And the odor is so tenacious! I've been burning incense
and oil like it was going out of style, but there's always a
faint skunk perfume in the air. Or maybe it's psychological,
I don't know.

Aaaaaaaaanyway, I love her to bits.

She's my Daisy Mae Crocket Lavoie.

Hugs,
Mudd

Shae is a Rottweiller and is my best friend in the world , she is now 3 and a half, have had her since the start .
Shae is pretty cool except for one fact..she honestly believes she is human but she is cute so i allow her that privallege ( what can i say she is female they never think right)
Its amazeing the emotions i see in her eyes and characteristics,. When my ex first left she sulked around the house had the sad puppy dog eyes which motivated me to get her out walking.
We now walk every night and are as happy as hell...both of us are

Oh Mudd, your Daisy is beautiful! And Cathy, your little pup is super cute too!

I had 3 cats until I moved house last summer....a mother and her two kittens (who are now almost 4.) The mother cat decided she didn't like the new place and took off after about 3 weeks. She came to me as a pregnant stray, so she never could adapt to being a housecat. I tried to find her but to no avail. The kittens have never been outside, so they seemed to adapt better to the new surroundings. Their names are Rascal and Pepper. Very cute, very different personalities. I'll see if I can get a photo up here later....no time now, gotta pet my kitties....

Do your children take them out to hold and stroke?

Oh, wow! Your post reminds me of a black cat I used to live with. She was like that, too. She'd talk a lot and when I came home, she'd 'meowr' at me in a certain way that certainly seemed like 'Hey! Great to see you! Where have you been! Come sit, stroke me, and tell me all about it!'

I've heard that black cats are the result of cross-breeding a Siamese with a miscellaneous 'breed'. This produces the all black colouring and makes them 'talkative'.

I used to have another cat who also talked a lot. She had stribes and was white, black, grey and brown.

Once I had a friend over and both cats were in the living room making her nervous. So I simply said to the cats, "Out now!" and they went out of the room. lol. My friend stared at me all amased. I just smiled and said "well my cats are housetrained" :D
and it wasnt a lie! I could call them and they would come, I could tell them No and they would stop doing whatever they were doing. They were really like dogs.
Now I only have the small black one left. I think she is a bit lonely and misses me when Im away.

LOL Those are great stories. Mine, too, was very trainable. She would go for walks with me in the woods and would stay near me, talking to me. She would even change her body language and her verbal language when she'd had enough and was trying to tell me it was time to go home. (Who was training who here? :hmm: )

Her favourite 'trick' was to lurk on top of the fridge, waiting for anyone to walk into the kitchen. Then she'd playfully bat at their heads.

I had another cat, once, who used to do something similar from mid-way up the stair case. He would hunch down beside the banister, waiting for someone to pass by. Then he'd fling his paws out between the railings, bat the passer-by's head a few times, then lunge up the stair case and hide upstairs! Great game. Even better when the person would chase after him!

This was the same cat who used to get into the tampax boxes, shred the wrapper and cardboard off a tampx and then cart the plug (with it's tail!) around the house for all to see. 'Look at me! Mighty hunter returning with the kill!':biglaugh:
