How do you deal with politics in the office, or on the job. I'm having a really hard time with this in the last few months, since we got a new manager.

I'm having a really hard time with this in the last few months, since we got a new manager. endeavour 05-01-2004, 08:52 AM You're obviously remaining submissive and thereby perpetuating the situation. I'm not saying tackle the problem head on, but unless you start to suggest observations towards the direction of the problem you will never have a chance to overcome it. another side is to step outside of yourself and look at the situation from the new managers shoes. What would you be doing if you were in their position? you could also consider are you a part of the problem? sometimes uncomfortable to accept, but it takes more than one person to have an issue. politics is nothing more than negotiation. there is no such thing as personality conflict, that's a lame excuse to avoid confronting real issues. deal with specific issues, not a whole array of messages. look at the persons attributes and consider what you like about them, tell them the things that you think that they are doing well at, then ask them about one or two issues only that you are not comfortable with, and ask for their perspective. inform them that you are interested in working in a mutually progressive environment, and what is it that i can do to help them achieve their goals (not yours). |
