I'm curious if any of you do this same thing. Let's say that you have two projects that you have to finish in a day. One that takes let's see 3 hours, and the other one can take anywhere from 1-10 hours depending how good you want the end result.

The first project would take definate time, the second project would take indefinate time to finish. So we have definates and indefinates.

How would you prioritize your time beween the projects?

I always start with my definates. Because I know how much time I need for this and once they are finished I can leave them be and be happy with the end results. And when I'm done with my definate/s I will start on my indefinate project and spend as much time on this as possible. Because the more time I spend on it the better the end result would be. Since it gets better you more time you spend on it, it is bad for me to start with these projects because when you get going it's easy to spend too much time on these (because of positive reinforcement, you see the results of your work) and not save enough time for the indefinate projects.

Make any sense?

Thanks. :yup:

That's a good question.

Perhaps if you made a start on the indefinite project first and made good progress, it might give you a better idea of how long it will take to finish. Even if it's going to take quite a while, you still know how long the other project will take and can leave enough time to get it finished. Getting the big one done first might make things easier by knowing that the smaller one is definite and won't be as daunting.

That's how I would approach it anyway.... :)

Personally I would work on the one with a definate time frame first, because knowing myself, I would continue working on the idefinate time frame project as long as it takes, and could possibly run out of time for doing the definate time frame project.

That's precisly how I work too... Because I would continue polishing and adding stuff to the "indefinate project" and run out of time to finish the "definate project". ;)

the definate is the one to begin with, you know it's going to be a completed task in a relative time. it would also give you closure, and if you finished early, you would be better attuned to takle the unknown.

and as was said, if you had the time for the indefinite, being perfectionists, we would just spend more time polishing the indefinate for the best position for it to be seen in.

isn't it funny that we all see our own logic as the one to go with.
