View Full Version : AMEN ANDY ROONEY!

This was sent to me in an email today and I thought it was very interesting so I wanted to share it. I wasn't sure where to post so I figured this might be the best place.

Right on, Andy Rooney!

Andy Rooney said on "60 Minutes" a few weeks back:

I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America. Try to have thin gs like the UnitedCaucasianCollege Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.

Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.

I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, which is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?

I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.

I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.

When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling; it is the Law of Probability.

I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newsp aper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!

My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.

I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry ass if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.

I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.

We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.

I d on't hate the rich I don't pity the poor.

I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.

I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building.

It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"

I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!

I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe. I am proud to be from America and nowhere else

And if you don't like my point of view, tough...

I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG, OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!

I was asked to send this on if I agree or delete if I don't. It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having "In God We Trust" on our money and having "God" in the Pledge of Allegiance. Why don't we just tell the 14% to Shut Up and BE QUIET!!!

If you agree, pass this on, if not delete. .

Ah! Another lady in the mail-dominated Political forum. Welcome, Joanne!

OK -so now we know what Andy Rooney thinks (No surprises there!)

But what do YOU think, Joanne?

Hi Spider/Joanne,

I pride myself on being totally apolitical (don't shoot me) but I love Andy Rooney and I love Joanne, so here I am.

I totally 100% agree with everything Andy said above. OMG, she's taking stand. She's totally throwing diplomacy and milque-toastiness out the window. Has the world gone completely stark-raving mad????? :yikes: She must have become hypnotized by Andy's eyebrows. They're like a separate entity, you know.

In conclusion,

1-2-3.....:urock: Andy & Joanne !!!

This Andy Rooney quote is (thankfully) a hoax. Pretty hateful stuff.

Andy's response:

About a year ago, I became aware of a more serious theft of my name and it is so hurtful to my reputation that it calls for legal action against the thief. Hundreds of people have written asking if I really wrote the 20 detestable remarks made under my name that have had such wide circulation on the Internet.

Some of the remarks, which I will not repeat here, are viciously racist and the spirit of the whole thing is nasty, mean and totally inconsistent with my philosophy of life. It is apparent that the list of comments has been read by hundreds of thousands of Americans, many of whom must believe that it accurately represents opinions of mine that I don't dare express in my column or on television. It is seriously damaging to my reputation.

Another respponse by Mr. Rooney:

There's a collection of racist and sexist remarks on the Internet under a picture of me with the caption ‘ANDY ROONEY SAID ON 60 MINUTES.’ If I could find the person who did write it using my name I would sue him.

Amen to the REAL Andy Rooney! You really should check your sources before attibuting libel to someone. This is truly hateful, and is hurting someone's reputation to perpetuate some coward's beliefs that they're too afraid to put their own name on.

It doesn't seem hateful to me so much as each statement provides a little-spoken-about counterpoint to stuff that's already out there in the current reality.

The speaking English part doesn't bother me so much....personally, I think we should all learn to speak other languages at least conversationally. But that's my thing, and I'd happily do it.

I must admit I did think as I read this, that this didn't sound like what I knew of Andy Rooney. I didn't find the comments that offensive either Joanne & Jules. Just another opinion.

Dopey Dog, exactly what part is "hateful"? I don't consier myself a hateful person by any means but I agreed with everything that was said in the non-Andy Rooney quote. To me it was just line after line of common sense. Shows you how out of the loop I am maybe.

It might be good to note that Andy Rooneys response to the attributed state was made in 2003, not last year.
Such is the lasting effect of the Internet.

Be aware of Your Comments and Statements.

The most hateful part of this whole thing is some anonymous person attributing certain beliefs to someone who completely rejects those beliefs. Can we at least agree on that?

This thing has floated around the internet for years. Every time I read it I laugh at the political incorrectness of it and I must say I agree with about 80% of it. I live in the DC area where I am a minority and it gets very difficult to accept the BS sometimes.

When I go to Honduras, I am EXPECTED to try and speak Spanish. Many speak English but many don't. If I EVER intended to live there full time the first thing I would do is learn the language and learn their customs. You get my point.

Too often we worry about Political Correctness and respecting others feelings which in the long run damage us and our society as we build and harbor unspoken angers and resentments. I think there are times to speak out and this list contains some of the points that need to be said.

I believe in Love and compassion but I also believe that calling the sky blue when its blue is vital to my personal integrity. Non of its real anyway so why not call it like you see it and have some fun!

For you Spider! :) :rulz: :) LOL

I think if we all respected one another as human BEINGS we wouldn't have to worry too much about being politically correct.

I like Obama's key question, "how would that make you feel?"

Exactly, I'm not a big fan of political correctness myself, which is why I'd rather respect a person then don't have to wonder what I would need to do to be politically correct toward them.

Sometimes I wonder if political correctness and affirmative action is more about assuaging guilt than actually fixing the "problem". Both continue to perpetuate the differences concept and can just add more fuel to the fire of resentment.

I wasn't aware Andy Rooney didn't say this (obviously) but I didn't post it because of Andy Rooney, I posted it because I found it to be very interesting and most of it I agree with.

I honestly didn't think any of it was visciously racist or nasty but thats my opinion.

Not many (none?) of those things are incorrect insofar as they are patently untrue.

'Politically correct' doesnt mean something is actually correct. It just a nice term for the act of blowing smoke up some particular demographic's ass because they are sensitive about something and being buttheads and loud about it.

Andy could never had gotten away with that on TV. It had to be a hoax.

That is absolutely true - not on broadcast tv anyway....cable maybe...but certainly not one of the networks. If you're looking for cheap fits-n-giggles some day, find a copy of "broadcast standards" from the networks and see just what you can't say on tv!!! It's hysterical.

Which list did you read? More than a few of them are "patently" True.
