View Full Version : The Dems and Iran - what next?

I hadn't seen this reported elsewhere, but in the NY Times today it reported that the IAEA were still waiting on responses from Iran about particles of HIGHLY enriched Uranium found on the side of a truck during one of their routine inspections. For those that don't know, most civil nuclear power applications only need an enrichment of a few per cent, compared to much higher enrichments used for bombs. The finding of evidence for highly enriched particles certainly causes concern and raises questions over their claims for this being for civil use.

I haven't heard the Dems talk much at all during the elections about either Iran or North Korea. Does anyone know their policies? Will they maintain the push for sanctions or not?

Iran has claimed that they want to build 3,000 centrifuges to enrich U by 2007. These could generate enough enriched material in 9 months to make about 55lbs of enriched fuel... enough to make about 5 bombs.

Potentially of course N. Korea could even be sharing technology with them right now. Iran has potentially a far better distribution system for exploding nukes than N. Koreas crappy missiles.... the Islamic terrorists and suitcase bombs.

This potential threat was there before the election and hasn't gone away. Two years to another election is on the timescale of this problem becoming very real. So this is something that Bush and the Dems will have to address and face. So it will be interesting and essential that they work together on this. What will they do?

There are far more pressing national security issues Paul, like raising the minimum wage, keeping greeters from saying 'christmas' at Wal-Mart, replaying Hillary-care part-deux, putting an ABSCAM conspirator in as the House Majority Leader, and setting an impeached former Judge as the head of the Intelligence Committee.

Lol - no, not laughing.

No- the only solution they had was more police action work- which ain't working so well. Lack of a coherent stratagy from both sides; which means they hope Israel will blow up the reactors before they get operational, and save them from "warmongering" charges in the next election. Because they NEED to be elected to..........?????????? Do more of the same not working stuff?

Typical response, though; attempting to throw bombs at the other side instead of offering a better solution. Anybody heard one that doesn't involve electing "my" side?

Didn't think so.

So we get to battle more terrorists because of failed policy; and we've lost the ability to be the moderator a la Carter because, well, they just don't trust us no more. (Gee- ya think?) Stategic and Tactical FAILURE by the neocons- who shoulda listened to Daddy Bush, not the shrub.....

Only my opinion, of course.......
