MantaRayz 05-21-2004, 04:19 PM OK, we know we all do things that keep us motivated, or make us motivated when we need that nudge, or even when we need that smack upside the head!
What are some of those things you do that others might find useful?
I find Music is awesome for setting or enhancing a mood, or a tone, or a flavor. Of an event, of a setting, of a moment in time.

WOW!! The quote in blue is very moving and empowering!!
Listening to music is extremely motivating.
I think surrounding and networking with like minded people is a powerful thing. It creates forces that shatters steel walls.
Forming a mastermind alliance and having regular "building" sessions is, I feel, the most motivational thing anyone can do.
I use what I suppose would be called affirmations. I talk to myself about something I want to achieve as if it is already happening. As I say it, I try to produce some kind of positive emotion along with it, to "charge" it.
Scarlet Warrior 05-22-2004, 05:21 AM I agree with Manta that music is very inspiring and uplifting.... I often listen to good music to psyche myself up.
I usually go for a run or long walk every day and use that time to think of all the goals and projects I am currently working on. Like Tom, I also use positive self-talk and visualise successful outcomes.
I have found this method to be very motivating, and has helped to combat procrastination.
I Like Tom, I also use positive self-talk and visualise successful outcomes.
I like the way you put that, "visualise successful outcomes." I think this is a great habit to get into. IMHO, it's great that you are developing that "muscle" because I believe visualization can and will help you tremendously in your sports endeavors too.
endeavour 05-22-2004, 07:05 AM it's interesting. whilst i drive around every day going from appointment to appointment, i actually find music too distracting. i drive around listening to myself and thinking about the next clients needs and how i can create the most positive scenario for a win/win situation.
genuine intent is the foremost requirement to do this. without this, i loose my integrity, and therefore the sale.
occasionally i listen to motivational cd's (in which i carry around 30-40 in the car), and i find that when i put one on, i listen to it repetitively 4 or 5 times before i change it. and then i revert to being silent again!
MantaRayz 05-22-2004, 07:43 AM .... As I say it, I try to produce some kind of positive emotion along with it, to "charge" it.One of my Best Students said something very profound once ....
Do, or Do NOT! There is no TRY!
;)

Amen to that. :)
endeavour 05-22-2004, 07:53 AM we've all been there in life where we were hesitant to do something and regretted the outcome.
we've probably been there as well where we've not done something and have thanked god that we didn't do it.
i guess what i'm suggesting is don't apply every quote to your life without first considering the consequences of your actions.
You lost me there endeavor. I mean I understand what you are saying, but I'm not sure what you are saying it in relation to.
endeavour 05-22-2004, 08:17 AM i was commenting on manta's student, who was saying, there was no try, like the nike mantra, just do it.
there are always consequences to everything that you do.
eg; a negative person would read 'just do it' differently tham a positive person
endeavour 05-22-2004, 08:25 AM have changed my signature now!
MantaRayz 05-22-2004, 05:44 PM Endeavor ...... you are of course correct in what you point out. I do not believe that the directive or the Intent of "Do or Do not" or even the "Just Do It" talks about or even hints at doing everything without thought.
Actually, that is a very common misinterpretation of the quote "Do or Do Not, There is No Try." The intention of that saying is to sugest that when you DO something, You DO IT. 110%. (OK, in your case, 100%. don't wanna loose ya! ;) ) Most of the time, the TRY is a "Well, I kinda gave it a shot. I got a couple 'Nos', and then quit" kind of attempt, that was prone to failure in the first place. When we put everything we have into something, we generally have a much better chance of Success.
So ..... Do or Do Not ..... there is no TRY!
meaning?
If you are going to do anything in the first place, DO IT to your GREATEST POTENTIAL! DO NOT give it less that it, or You, deserves!
endeavour 05-23-2004, 06:44 AM lol. always good to read your input manta,
isn't it amazing that we need to further adjust interpretation of what we have written in order to have people understand it to our intention.
and i think that it's fantastic that we have questioning of our espoused positions, in order to identify this.
keep up the good work people, and question, question, question!
MantaRayz 05-23-2004, 08:50 AM Actually endeavor, I had to clean up what was read into the statement. "Just Do It" and "Do or Do Not" are two totally different frames of Thought, Action and Intention. That one reads into a statement an intrepretation of their own choosing is a challenge in writing and communication. So thanks for that lesson.
Questions are great vehicles for learning, but questions for questions sake usually just detract from the original message. One of my great Teachers (going way back to the second Grade now) told us that "If you know enough to ask the question, you already have the basis of the answer." Questions are Powerful Vehicles to knowledge and understanding. And Powerful Questions Empower. Sometimes, the best person to pose a question to would be oneself. So ask, but ask wisely.
BTW ....... who knows that Student I mentioned? I bet you know!
Well I understood the original quote exactly as you meant it. Which is why I was confused by endeavor's response.
MantaRayz 05-23-2004, 08:57 AM I kinda thought so.
hummmmmm ..... maybe it's the vegimite? ;)
endeavour 05-24-2004, 07:30 AM correct spelling VEGEMITE!!!!!
rwaforums 05-24-2004, 08:04 AM correct spelling VEGEMITE!!!!!
Is that similar to marmite? :)
MantaRayz 05-24-2004, 02:09 PM Is that similar to marmite? :)OMG! YOU have something like that too? Well, I shouldn't be surprised! The Brits have some ...... interesting food selections. And since I'm Scottish, I shudder to think of Hagas:yikes: I mean, who would think of that in the first place :hmm:
MantaRayz 05-24-2004, 02:12 PM correct spelling VEGEMITE!!!!!Sorry Guy! I didn't know I was offending the culinary elite of Australia!
Scarlet Warrior 05-25-2004, 12:57 AM I like the way you put that, "visualise successful outcomes." I think this is a great habit to get into. IMHO, it's great that you are developing that "muscle" because I believe visualization can and will help you tremendously in your sports endeavors too.
Most of the success books and articles I have read stress that visualisation is a fundamental key to achieving goals. It seems to be a common factor in what a lot of people on this forum have said as well.
endeavour 05-25-2004, 06:50 AM after i eat vegemite every morning for breakfast (which, coincidentally, is similar, but tastes better than marmite) i visualise the rest of my day. (tongue in cheek)
visualisation is critical to a reponse of intended outcomes. visualisation fine tunes focus. it cannot be used to suceed in everything that you would desire, but it does strengthen your motivation if it is indeed genuine.
i believe that many people visualise without actually realising what they are doing. i suspect that many people create the outcomes that they desire without actually realising that what they are doing is truely a powerful thing. i would suggest that the awareness of this information awakes us to the possibilities of furthering our desires more effectively than the unintentional use of it.
furthermore, i believe if your outcomes are lacking in genuine intent, your subconcious will sabotage your efforts thereby thwarting any work already done.

I do not know exactly how this goes, but I know of a study with a basket ball team or something like that. Where one team practiced every day for hours and one team practiced very little, but spent time thinking about the game and practiced shooting the ball in their heads. The team that thought about it did far better then the team that spent more time doing and less time thinking.
