I read this last week and thought about it several times throughout the week. It made me come to the realization about something I've known for awhile, and that is that I need to edit some of the company that I keep.

These people's attitude do not mirror what I want in life, and I can see that keeping company with them is a hinderance to my progress.

Nothing personal against them, it's just that I've got to move on down the road with my life.

Sometimes fruitful thinking like that just takes a little time to sink in. :thumb:

Sometimes, we need to do some pruning to keep our tree growing in the shape and direction we want it to grow. I've done the "friend thing" before, and while it's not pleasant, it's for the best.

A couple years ago, I went to my High Schools 30th reunuion. (I know ... I don't look a day over 28th!:-) I was amazed to see most of myformer classmates and friends still doing the same as they did then. WOW! Only a few had made the break to do something different. And that did include addressing the friend or associates thing.

Congratulations on your decision. I know it is not an easy one. Keep in mind your Purpose when talking with them, and that will help you leep to the path you now need to travel.

Growth isn't always the easy thing. But it's always the right thing!

The tree prunning is a great analogy.

Let me tell you a neat story.

Many years ago my older brother owned a landscaping business. Because He loved doing this type of work His quality of work was some of the best.

At the time He and His wife lived in a apartment/condominium where the management did'nt pay to have the landscape contractors prune the trees.

During the five years that they remained residents there He would prune, trim, and fertilize the tree in front of His door on an annual basis.

When they moved, the tree that He had nurtured and prunned was ten times the size of the other trees that were once the same size. I'm not kidding literally ten times the size as the others.

The tree that He had prunned had a 20 inch in diameter trunk as opposed to the 6 inch trunks of the others next door.

The moral of the story... although prunning in our lives may hurt a little at the time, the long term benefits are astounding. Nature itself can testify to that.

I have actually considered creating a line of greeting cards. When I was a teen I wrote a lot of poetry with a focus on music and lyrics.

I'm glad the tree analogy worked for you. To further that line of Thought .... I do Bonsai, the Art of Sculpting Smaller Trees. Bonsai literally means "Tree in Pot" or "Tiny Tree in Pot," and has been practiced for thousands of years.

This week, I bought 3 trees, currently about 2 1/2 - 3 feet tall. After they stablize, I'll be cutting a couple of them back pretty good! A Bonsai haircut! This will be the start of the overall transformation of the Tree, to the Shape I can see it, in my mind.

My First Intention is to establish the Trunk, which is the basis of the visible tree.
My Second Intention is to remove from the tree the branches and leaves that detract from the overall shape. Usually small branches, and sometimes main branches, more than half of the tree!
My Third (and concurrent) Intention is to wire the remaining branches and trunks, to grow in the direction I envision for them.
The Fourth Intention is to Feed and Nurture these trees, which will include (in a couple cases) heavily pruning some of the growth that has taken place in inappropriate places; this will encourage new growth to spring forth on the trunk and major branches; pinching back new growth; rewiring the trees probably twice this year; and eliminating some of the remaining and new growth; pinch back some of the new leaves to shrink them to be in proportional size to the tree.
My Fifth Intention - ReEvaluate the Trees in a couple years. What worked? What didn't? Do I need to do something different? What did I learn that I can use on other Trees?

WHOOPS! In there will be another pretty major step ..... establishing a root system that will better support the tree, both in structural support, as well as nutritive support. Just as there can be a lack of roots, there can be too many roots, not longer doing their original intended purpose. It's best to identify these, and remove them from the system. And being organic, they can be recycled back into the soil for future projects.

Project time for these trees? 3 - 5 years. And because I've not worked with this kind of tree before, I really have no guarrantee of the overall success. But based on past efforts, I believe that these projects will create the kind of Living Art that will last for generations to come. Inspiring those that will appreciate the Beauty that only now exists in this Mind!

I have done some bonzai in the past myself, but with only minimal success. My best effort was a White Ash which I had for a couple of years. The tree was just starting to develop some character when it died. I had to leave it with a house mate for 2 weeks, and despite my request for him to water it, he didn't.... I was devastated! :(

I have also tried with Junipers and English Box, but I havent figured the best way to maintain them.... i.e. how to fertilise, prune branches and roots properly.

Bonzai is definitely a fine art which requires a great deal of knowledge and patience.

And yes it IS hard to let go of some friends, however stepping up ourselves is all we can do - some friends, you'll leave behind - others will be wanting to join you! :yippee:

Good point. Does anyone have any input on why people allow negative thoughts into their heads to begin with? It happens to all of us from time to time and I'm curious what some of you think about it.

I think people become negative for many different reasons. For me it was because my mother has always had a negative attitude and always complained alot. Also, I don't think people realize that when they're negative about a situation it only breeds more negativity. Another thing, people don't know that you must actively work on your thought processes and fill them with positive messages to combat any negative occurences or thoughts that occur. Being positive is wonderful, but I don't think it's always a natural state. Positivity is an active choice that one must work to maintain in their life. The more you do this, the easier it becomes. That's what I've learned.

Im a University lecturer and I see this so often in students who have talent but fail to do well.

I also think its part of reason for the gender gap in our (UK) schools. Young males get into groups and get this mind set that effort / striving (dare i say success!) is somehow shamefull or uncool, once that happens the results of each student is a reflection of the expectations of their gang of friends.

I know it can happen with female groups too, I just see it so often with boys.

Anyway just my thoughts

Great point Susan! It is the Law of Attraction, that what we focus on we get more of (energy flows where attention goes). Therefore, if we are positive we will get more of that. All of us do have fleeting moments of negative thoughts. Dr. Wayne Dyer (Power of Intention) suggested a great way to handle this. Simply acknowledge the thought, then say 'next'.

It has Permanent Press and Ultra Clean.

It doesn't have a "Normal" Cycle either....no big surprise there! :cookoo: I bet it has a Spin cycle! :biglaugh:

My downfall i will admit is focusing on sexual thoughts. They distract me alot, and i wish i could find a way to sway them away. :o :(

You could do a meditation, during which you would transfer the sexual feelings to your heart chakra, and then release them.

Well i have been meditating lately, and i must admit the feelings are not as strong as before. Its only been a recent thing for me to start doing this via holosync, but now i know that the feelings can be transfered to the heart chakra via meditation, i will make sure i never miss a day. :)

I truly am passionate sexually ( probably too much so, but not in a sick way ), so i do appreciate this.
