On another thread I was asked to show some sources. Here they are!

I do think this is very relevant to being Successful in life. It is vitally important to think for ourselves but also to try and find ways of understanding things and understanding where the information is coming from and why it exists or doesn't exist.

All I ask is that for those who want to explore the exciting world around us, jump in with an open mind.

If you want to find out some interesting things then I recommend you follow some of these paths. Perhaps you will reach different conclusions but that is the point, to expand our knowledge so we can think for ourselves. I am not going to defend these sources as that is their job. If you can add to the list please do so!

The journey began in earnest when I came across a list of similarities between Pagan religions and the story of the new testament. They seem to fit almost exactly and yet were around long before 0AD. That really peaked my curiosity.

Lets first reread the Bible or refresh our memory of how the story goes. If you can't find a Bible - you must be on the moon!

Old and New Testament

So lets learn about the myths of the ancients who also tried to answer the same questions:

The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Cambell

He is the foremost expert on myths. ( he actually helped develop Star Wars)
It is eye opening on just what myths existed and how the people used them. It introduces the concept that the ancients did not follow myths as literal truths but as guides to understanding the unknown. There definitely seems to be astonishing similarities with the Bible stories.

Well this made me want to learn more about ancient civilization. Where could these myths have come from. That lead me to:

Fingerprints of the gods and Heaven's mirror : quest for the lost civilization by Graham Hancock
He also has videos out on the same topic.

He has traveled to every ancient site and has found some astonishing similarities around the world. Most of the placements of these monuments reflect the actual placement of stars in the zodiac. For example the pyramids are arranged exactly like Orion's belt with even the Nile in the position of the Milky Way. The real interesting thing is that all over the world the alignments are like the Stars were 10500 years ago! All sorts of other neat stuff about a possible ancient civilization that knew the stars and the world extremely well. That is the first mention on the grouping of stars according to the zodiac.

So if the Bible was a copy of pagan myths then you would expect to see the basic core appear in the story with different names. That would mean the Bible , like the myths, would have strong ties with the Zodiac. And so it appears to have. We all know that Jesus was born and killed on the most important dates in the Zodiac. However the similarities don't just end there.

Now this is getting really juicy.Let see what if any sources with references are out there that have seen this link before and done some real research into it.

The Jesus mysteries : was the 'original Jesus' a pagan god? by Timothy Freke

This book is loaded with insights and gives all the sources. He looks at it from all angles. Written records, similarities, origins and so on. You will probably be very surprised.

So it appears one needs to understand ancient Rome as it is key to understanding why the Bible and Christianity are what they are.

Videos:

Ancient Rome. Vol. 1,2,3,4 by A&E Home Video

Very interesting. They are not out to make any point but as they describe Constantine (300AD) they actually tell you a lot about the pivotal moment in Christianity. Why it was chosen by him as the state religion and why he needed it.

So it appears that decisions where made at this time as to what would be in the Bible and what would not. There were many flavors of Christianity, 80 gospels and a critical moment in history. Let see if we can understand the details of what happened.

BBC documentary The Lost Gospels.

Here is a torrent of the show:

http://www.mininova.org/tor/507856

Showing the research of a priest who was made curious when he discovered there were things that he wasn't being told by his church. An in depth look at the politics and battles for what the Bible should read like. What gospels where tossed out and why.

So if you made it this far you probably have had a few surprises and have formed an opinion based on a bit more information.

Of course there are numerous web sites covering these in various ways but the sources above are very clear about their sources and take a scientific approach to the data.

Some really interesting sources here. I've found Jesus Mysteries to be eye opening, and, in a peculiar way, has refreshed my faith by reminding me of the importance of the message. I left that book feeling like it wasn't so important to know if all the story of Jesus is literally true, it's just important that we remember the message, integrate it and live it.
