View Full Version : Keith Olbermann comments on Bush's "Sacrifice" Speech
seekperfection 01-18-2007, 10:10 PM I don't have cable, so I missed this commentary. Keith Olbermann did a great job in this video. All I can say is, wow, I couldn't have said it better myself!

Yep, WOW is all I can say myself.
Haven't we gotten ourselves in a bind.
It really makes me wonder about the sanity at the top.
Just a few days ago I met Bush's speach writer. I asked her point blank if he is as big an idiot as he comes off and she said no. Then I asked if he is so smart and she was his writer what does that say about her. She defended them both. I don't think I made a friend but I had to ask the begging question...

Keith Olbermann, :urock:

I wonder if she had anything to do with him pretending like he'd listen to suggestions from Congress after they protested, then saying he was going ahead with his plan the next day.

Keith Olbermann, :urock:
Yes, I think I just found a new great voice to listen to myself. He needs to keep up the good work. He has Geraldo Rivera wanting to actually fight him. http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/news_local_namesblog/2007/01/geraldo_wants_t.html Bill O'Reiley has been pretty steamed at him too for some time. http://mediamatters.org/items/200603030010 If you can't out think them, then threaten them and their supporters, eh?! :yikes:
I can't blame Bill since he has to deal with things like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O2KU02lsfH8 ;)
KahunaGrande 01-22-2007, 06:19 PM Leaders LEAD Seek, and critics, well they criticize.
If Congress were serious about opposing the war, rather than just getting their puffy smug faces on TV, they would pull funding for the war, just like they did in Vietnam, and we would be, again, directly and indirectly responsible for the deaths of millions.
They lack the courage to LEAD, so they snipe in the 24 hour news cycle, knowing all the while their own investments are getting richer, their children are not at risk, and that they will not, God forbid, have to take an ACTUAL stance on anything, because their accomplices in the drive-by media never bother to look at voting records, only the latest soundbite on the talking head shows.
Olbermann is a dork IMO, not just on this but on everything, he is paid to find fault with anything and everything, and to then blow it up out of all proportion. He is dead last in the ratings for his time slot, his books sell much less than other commentators, he is a mediocre player at best.
I would like to see you find a commentator with more gravitas or better yet, write your own well-formed opinions that come from your own fact-backed research and your own eye towards the overall geo-political situation, then we could have a meaningful discussion.
Penelope 01-22-2007, 07:19 PM There is a difference between Leaders in a Democracy and Tyrants.
When a President demands to ignore the will of the people and claims he is the "Decider" when in reality WE ARE, then he is a tyrant.
When a President demands to remove Constitutional Rights for ALL Citizens instead of prosecuting criminals, then he is a tyrant.
When a President demands to "Sacrifice" Americans without OUR CONSENT, then he is a tyrant.
President Bush has repeatedly stepped over the line from Leader to Tyrant. We have lost too many rights, too many lives, too much money, and too much freedom while he has taken too much of all of the above.

1. Resolutions aren't drawn up and passed over night in Congress. When they're this important I would certainly hope that they'd take their time. The opinions of Congress members probably reflect those of the people they represent, I'm sure that alot of folks have weighed in on this issue. So I don't fault them for speaking up since it is their duty to the people who elected them. Give them time and they will lead, I am sure of that.
2. Bill O'Reiley finds fault with plenty of things as well. He also reeks of paranoia and hatred. Why else would one reporter''s name send him into a frenzy? Olbermann's show is the highest rated on MSNBC and at times his ratings have been higher than O'Reiley's. (Spongebob Squarepants has had higher ratings as well. If Bill is so great, then why would Americans rather let their children watch a cartoon show than watch his program?! But I digress.)
I really don't care about book sales amongst commentators. What do ratings and book sales really mean vs. the quality of the materials presented these days? Paris Hitlon's book hit the New York Times' Best Seller List, Jerry Springer is a day time superstar, My Humps reached number three on the Billboard charts and two teenage guys lip syncing to a Pokemon theme is the second most watched video on youtube. So why should I care what the masses are consuming recently? Do ratings honestly matter that much in your mind? I would hope not. (But I think we've been down this path before, haven't we?)
My own opinion on this? We went over there to search for WMDs and take out Saddam while trying to make certain he never returned to power. There are no WMDs, Saddam is dead and he will not be returning as a zombie to rule over Iraq. So why are we still over there?! The current government of Iraq is weak and the second we pull out of Iraq there will be a massive civil war that will see a regime change. Nothing we can do will stop this, we are just sending more soldiers to their deaths so Bush can save face until the '08 elections are over.

Great points, I have to agree with you. :thumb:

Amen, Penelope. I could not agree more. Very well said! :yup:
