I'm pretty excited I just registered for an e-mail account from Google. It is still in beta testing and open by invitation. I had to trade a logo for an invitation so I now hve google mail. :)

As you all know Hotmail has a 2MB storage limit while G-Mails has a 1,000MB limit. So that should last me for a while. =)

Why the invitation? Seems like a weird idea, no?

Yeah, it's a pretty weird idea. But they're still testing it, so I guess that's the reason... It will be open for everybody pretty soon, I would guess.

Now Yahoo have followed suit with a 2GB offering to their premium members without an increase in price.

Users of the free service will have their allocation increased to 100Mb and attachment sizes will increase from 3Mb to 10Mb and also Yahoo Mail has a makeover.

This all happening today.

It's a good way for them to test it without opening it to the public. If they opened it to the public, they would potentially have millions of people signing up at once before they load tested it with a smaller number. Using invitations, they can limit how many people sign up, look and see if there are any bugs and see how much of a load it takes. Then when they take the measurements, they will know how much space and how many servers they will need when they open it to everyone. It's actually very good planning.

It's actually very good planning. possibly, but it sux I wasn't invited! Do you think it would help to send tham a "GeekPack"? M&Ms, PS2 games, Maxium magazine, etc?

We'll see if it's worth the hype. At the very least, I shouldn't be bombarded by "Growth Products."

I've had my HotMail address since Dec 98, and I am deluged by these kinds of ads. THESE are the people that need to pay for internet traffic. not me!

Then I would edit your post and remove the email address pretty damn quick. This is one way they get it. They have harvesting software that searches websites for email addresses. No joke.

Good point! I'm surprized that I done get more from my web sites. But they probably target types of sites as much as anything too. Ones that get mega traffic, dso they can get the most bang for their buck.

Cool!

I just recieved a memo from msn where they are informing me that my hotmail will be increased to 250 MB storage capacity with 10 MB attachment capabilities.

It's about time. I've had my hotmail account for about 10 years. :thumb:

NAH! They wouldn't try that one twice ........ would they? :lildevil:
