Has anyone here ever ran a marathon? I'm getting ready to run one in January down in Miami. I've always been in pretty good shape and I've done a lot of running over the years but I figured someone may have a tip or two.

I'm shooting for a time of 4 hours & 48 minutes (if my math is correct that's 11 minutes per mile for a 26.2 mile course)

On the training & nutrition:

Over the last 3 months I've been running about 15-30 miles per week. Usually anywhere between 2.5 to 5.5 miles. This Saturday I'll run 10 miles (1st time in a really long time) at about a 9 minute pace. I'm going to have to get really early to finish the run before this Florida heat kills me

I'll be keeping the carbs up-I don't buy into any of this Atkins garbage. It's really not good for you, besides, you need the extra energy when you're doing endurance training. FYI-I'm looking at 3,000-4,000 calories a day while training for this, maybe even more as I get nearer to the event (01/30/05).

It blows my mind that people can run 26 miles in that kind of time.

Well, so far that's just the plan. I'll know a little later if my time will be realistic :D

Well if you can run 26 miles in 3 days or less, I'll be impressed. :D
