OVERCOMING CALL RELUCTANCE
A Simple Plan For Beginning What You Want To Achieve
© Lee Wise All rights reserved
I have heard it more than once in recent days:
"I just didn't get around to making phone calls."
"I know I need to get on the phone and make those calls, but
I haven't made it happen."
Call reluctance.
It has the power to kill anyone who *must* make phone calls
in order to realize their dreams.
What you do NOT have before you is an "end all solution" for
healing the disease of call reluctance.
However...
What you DO have before you is a doable plan for helping you
-- or someone you are coaching -- to begin the process of
dealing with this disorder common to many.
It is not preventive medicine.
Rather, it is the "first shot in arm" to help someone
function well.
The suggestions you will read are:
Easy to understand.
Believable.
Achievable.
Let's start. First, I am asking you to...
REVIEW
Review your recent past by answering this question…
"If my next 90 days looked like my last 21 days, what would
they look like?"
FORECAST
With your answer to the first question in mind, answer this
one:
"Is that good, not so good, or bad?"
If your last 21 days depicted a weather pattern that was
moving from one section of the country to the next one, what
would your forecast be?
Bright, sunny days ahead?
Cloudy with a slight chance of rain?
Severe weather alert?
If your forecast is anything other than "bright, sunny days
ahead," then go on to the next step.
RECLAIM YOUR VISION
Connect -- once again -- to the driving forces behind your
decision to be in the business.
What were your strong *emotional* reasons for beginning your
business?
Connect *now* by writing down your driving forces.
Your top three were (are)...
1. __________________________________________________ _______
2. __________________________________________________ _______
3. __________________________________________________ _______
DESIGN AN "I CAN DO IT NOW!" PLAN
Allow me to present you with an easy to accomplish
suggestion: plan one day to make five calls.
Think "just five."
Why?
Because it is believable.
Take time -- right now -- to answer this: "Can you make five
calls... just five?"
The answer is: "Of course I can."
Next, take your answer and develop it into a short range,
*believable and achievable* plan of action by deciding to
make "just five" calls a day for four days.
Four days out seven.
You now have a simple, very attainable plan for making 20
calls in one week.
No, you are not going to set the world on fire by making
twenty phone calls.
But you will begin.
And that's the whole point!
GO PUBLIC
Become accountable to your business coach or a personal
friend who will check up on you. He or she should contact
you twice:
First, to make sure you actually made your "just five" when
you planned to make them.
Second, to make sure you completed your "just five" four
times during a seven-day period of time.
LET'S GET SPECIFIC
1. When will you make your first five calls? What day and
what time? Respond below:
Circle the day: M T W TH FR SAT SUN
What time that day? From _____________ To _____________
2. When will you have completed 20 calls? Write it down.
"I will have my 20 calls done by this date ________________"
3. Who will you choose to hold you accountable and when
will you contact that person? Write their name down.
The name of my contact person is __________________________
"I will contact this person by this date __________________"
DON'T FORGET THE PREP WORK
Don't forget to plan for your time of calling.
Prepare your workspace.
Turn your computer on.
Have pen and paper ready.
Get that coffee, tea, juice, etc.
Know who you are going to call.
In other words...
Create your success atmosphere.
AND SPEAKING OF SUCCESS
When you accomplish your plan of action, be sure to include
the following in your strategy for self-improvement.
1. Celebrate
Give yourself a pat on the back that will encourage you to
keep moving forward.
Affirm what you have done right. What went well is your
focus. So what if you only made 15 calls? 15 is more than
zero.
At this stage why not begin your personal success journal?
2. Keep Moving
Turn your success into more action. Within your personal
"believable and achievable" range, design a new plan of
attack.
Be sure to stretch yourself, but don't kill yourself.
3. Share Your Success
Tell someone.
Email someone.
Just share it!
Lead someone else through the same process.
