J. Paul Getty who was the richest man in the world during my childhood, said this..."I'd rather have 1% of the efforts of 100 men than 100% of my own efforts."

Make sense?

Excellent (in theory)

Yeah, in theory. But I think this theory has been adapted to fit the modern online world with the affiliate model, which is an excellent one IMHO--Instead of me investing everything in marketing my product, let hundreds or thousands of others do it for me.

"Word of Mouth" can be a powerful marketing tool. You do an excellent job for someone or have a good product, then that person will recommend you to at least 7 others and so on.

I think that is what J Paul Getty was getting at when he made that statement. Even though he was a huge monopoly anyway, so people didn't have much of a choice in the first place.

The biggest problem you have with that theory is when you get 1% of 100 men, but those men are doing little or nothing! Of course, you are also doing nothing, so what little you get is worth it.

It largely depends on the group in question.
