Why don't you try muscle building exercises like weights, calisthenics, etc. You can burn more calories if you have more muscle. You don't have to worry about bulk because even bulky muscles take hours to be built. RaqAttak 11-07-2005, 12:55 AM Hey, awesome to see that you've made the commitment, and make sure you stay with it! If you're ever feeling like crashing, come talk to us first and we'll get you sorted out! Good luck! CJS 11-07-2005, 02:40 PM Hi. Why don't you try muscle building exercises like weights, calisthenics, etc. You can burn more calories if you have more muscle. You don't have to worry about bulk because even bulky muscles take hours to be built. I have to disagree with this. You have to first take off some of the weight before you do the weights. I am assuming that flowerchildren is a woman; if not, then the weights would be okay at the beginning. CJS 11-07-2005, 02:44 PM I have started a new diet myself: two meals a day consisting of lentils, brown rice and veggies. I will probably eat a piece of fruit for breakfast. I am doing this for weight loss, plus I have a condition called IBS, and this diet seems to be helping. I am also trying to exercise 40 minutes/day: walking, treadmill, eliptical trainer and 10 lb weights. My goal is a 30 lb weight loss. RaqAttak 11-07-2005, 05:27 PM I have to disagree with this. You have to first take off some of the weight before you do the weights. I am assuming that flowerchildren is a woman; if not, then the weights would be okay at the beginning. Weights are always okay to do, just don't overdo it. You never want to do just cardio or just weights, however. You need a balance of the two to see the results that you would like. Optimum Life 11-08-2005, 12:58 AM I have to disagree with this. You have to first take off some of the weight before you do the weights. I am assuming that flowerchildren is a woman; if not, then the weights would be okay at the beginning. Actually, speaking as a personal trainer, if flowerchildren is a woman, it's even important for her to do weights than it would be if she was a man. The reason for this is that aerobic training doesn't provide the resistance that's necessary to prevent bone density loss and help guard against osteoporosis - something all of us women need to think about. Plus, of course, as mentioned earlier, more muscle means a higher basal metabolism, which means we burn more calories at rest. A good mixture of cardio and resistance work will beat pure cardio for weight loss every time - but it's got to be the right mixture, with the right level of weights, and the right number of repetitions. Also important is not just the number of calories we eat, but the quality of the food that goes to make up those calories, how they're divided up during the day, and how long we go between meals Flowerchildren - if there's anything I can help you with in your program, please feel free to PM me. Best wishes, and may every day bring you clsoer to your optimum life TANJA flowerchildn 11-08-2005, 03:09 AM :thumb: thanx a lot t all the nice people out there yup im a 23year girl i do 1 hr treadmill daily 6/7 days and occasionally yoga i had lost 47lbs last year but have gained back around 20 16 maybe following the above diet but for those who have read my journal in another section here i gained it back purely emotional reasons i lost all confidence my friends or lets say acquaintances misguided me i lost all confidence in everything but nw ive learnt im answerable to only myself and thats a good enough job and tough let people tell me im not good i dont care i listened the first time and dont want to now anyway im on a 1700 cal diet no weights for me yoga is better i feel and it does make me calm and confident so thats it thanx for the support looking forward for your replies :) :bouncy: Optimum Life 11-09-2005, 03:29 AM Hey there flowerchildren It's hard when you realise people you've trusted have been acting in ways that have hurt, rather than helped you, and you have my respect for choosing to find your strength and your confidence inside yourself :tiphat: . Optimum Life 05-17-2006, 12:58 AM i am ack again i am 5.1 height and 99 lbs weight. i want to loose 10 lbs in 1 month. Hi Cinrella Could I ask you why you're wanting to lose weight in the first place :hmm: ? At 5'1, and 99lb, you're only just short of being medically underweight as it is (your BMI, or Body Mass Index, is 18.7; and someone is considered unhealthily underweight at 18.5. A 10lb loss would put your BMI at 16.8 - far from healthy!) Also, with respect to wanting to lose the weight in a month, are you trying to slim down for a particular date, after which you don't mind if you put weight back on again and then gain a little extra on top of what you lost? A safe, sustainable weight loss level is 1-2lb per week, so you could expect to reasnably lose 4-8lb per month if you restricted your calories to a safe maximum and exercised regularly for that time. You can, of course, lose more than this faster if you're not sensible about it, but what happens is that a/ most of what you lose is water not fat so your body ends up dehydrated, and b/ by not supplying your body with enough energy, you actually slow down your metabolism. That means it gradually stores more and more of the energy you take in as fat, because it thinks you're surviving a famine. Then, as soon as you start eating healthily again, your body *keeps* storing more than usual as fat, meaning that if you get down to 89lb and then relax your eating just a little, chances are that you'll end up gaining it all back plus an extra 5-10lb on top before your body realises there really isn't a famine on. And because you've slowed down your metabolism, that extra 5-10lb is much harder to shift than the original weight was. My suggestion is that you think hard about why you're wanting to lose weight - and whether your reasons are worth you risking your long term health.
