Does anyone have any ideas about how to increase traffic to your blog? I've googled it about a zillion times and it says "comment on other people's blog" and create links. Is there any other way?

Also, my views went from ebbing and flowing to ABSOLUTELY PEAKING TO THE MAX - for one day. Then it went back to normal. Any ideas what could have happened?

He means you have to optimize your site for SEO - Search Engine Optimisation - effeciency.

So lets say you have a site that sells monkeys.

You need someone to tell you what the masses enter into Google when they want to buy a monkey.

PM me the site link, and an idea of what you want to flog, and I'll get my mate to have a look, and tell you how much you need to spend to come out top in the google ratings...

PM me aswell as My brother does this kind of thing and might be able to help without you having to spend that much.

The best thing that gets your site higher on search engines is to keep updating the site daily and adding new and interesting information that the cyber spiders will find.

I would read as many posts as you can in as short of time as possible as you can.

The dude has the traffic (results) and the basic stuff that the self proclaimed gurus try and soak you for he talks about with his community for free. I am not saying you won't have to pay for a resource at some point in time (example: learning the details of SEO), but as a primer his stuff is just stellar to begin your education and not just on traffic but on the whole package

That's often an indication that eople have you on alert so that they can visit you when you've put up something new. They all rush over and visit and then go away until the next time you post.

It can also coincide with you being referenced. People refer to something about your blog, and everyone comes over to read up, and then the flash in the pan dies back until you say something else that people just have to share.

I keep my traffic up in several ways:

Constantly putting new stuff up, even if it's just a quote,
but also making sure the bulk of my material has substance that will actually be helpful or enjoyable in some way
Getting videos up on places like Youtube.
Commenting on other people's blogs / sites etc.
Facebooking my brains out.

It's working for me. Audio Yoga is now in the top 40,000 for Canada and have increased our international traffic by 400% in the last 3 months.

Ive done a lot of research. The best and most Natural way to driving traffic is through creating backlinks. Obviously that is a process that will take a lot of time to build. I would research Seach engine optimization. Figure out how to get your page ranked up in the top 10 on specific google searches. Google Adwords can help with this. I was able to get my page indexed by google and ranked on the 1st page when you did a specific search within 3 days after gathing all of my research and putting it to use. I may have a training video that gives you a great format to use to make this happen. Its only about 5 min or so. Let me know if your interested and ill try and find it on my computer.

If you're building backlinks and commenting on other people's blogs, that should increase your traffic. Here are some tips:
- Comment on blogs with lots of traffic and don't advertize, make sure your comments are of good quality so people want to click your name and go to your blog. (same goes for forums)
- find other blogs that have a 'top commenters' plugin. If you are in the top ten, you get a backlink on every page of their blog. If they have a huge blog with hundreds of pages you get hundreds of backlinks. This is usually reset every month (or sometimes every week), so you have to comment almost every few days.
- the previous two will get you traffic, but they might not build you backlinks. Most blogs are NOFOLLOW, this means you don't get pagerankjuice from them.
So find blogs and forums that have DOFOLLOW. You can do that using this free plugin: seo for firefox (http://tools.seobook.com/firefox/seo-for-firefox.html) (not an affiliate link, requires firefox and you have to subscribe first, but you can unsubscribe immediately after). It will place itself in the bottom right corner of your firefox browser, right click the icon and select highlight no follow links. When you go on a blog or forum you will see no follow links on a red background. If comments have no red background, it is a dofollow blog. Perfect for driving traffic AND building backlinks. It will improve your ranking in google and thus create even more traffic to your website!
- use social media, article directories, ....

There are lots of things you can do to get more traffic, these are just a few techniques

Awesome tips and advice here...

I've begun commenting on blogs that allow links, but I'm concentrating mostly on blogs with higher page rank because it carries more weight with the search engines. My website has a page rank 4. Anyone who comments on my blog can link to their website, which will help improve your position on search results and help me increase activity on my site. If any of you have a blog I can comment on that allows me to include my url for a link, let me know and I'll be happy to stop by and leave a comment.

--> This could be a sign that someone tried to attac your site (DDOS)...
If you further want to investigate into this you should have a look if these visits all came from a similar country/town/IP...

The traffics increase means get the more back links. There are some technique used for it. And Blog is one of them. Blogging is a way to get a back links.

The best way to get backlinks is also the more straightforward: create content that is so high quality, that people will eagerly link to it.

People obsess over SEO but the fact is simple. Google's algorithms are built (and constantly fine-tuned) with the goal of rewarding sites that have good content and that are respected.

Back in the day there used to be silly things like keywords and meta tags. There are no such tricks anymore. Link farms don't work, the search engines see through such tactics. The best way is through quality content. The rest will follow by itself.

And if your content is good, then you could try submitting it to social news sites like Digg and Reddit. There's a lot of eyeballs to be had from there, but you have to offer something that has actual value to others. Most internet users can detect marketing-speak within seconds, so you have to be real and sincere, otherwise don't bother at all.

Or you can join a forum, post with responses of little or no value and have a link back to your site in the signature.

fortunately this method doesn't work very well. SEO has figured out it is most often a scam.

Good stuff so far but there shouldn't be a huge dependency on people finding you. If you are new, find related blogs, forums, groups, etc where conversation is happening. Contribute to those and network with your website.

Or even better... Create posts that have absolutely no relevance to any topic being discussed on the forum OR have information that is SO basic, most everybody who's been on that site for very long would already know or have heard countless times in various ways discussed by people who really care about the forum.

Not only does this suck as a SEO strategy, it also sucks at getting ANY direct traffic. most of the time, the posts by these "one hit wonders" get ignored for the fluff they are. Much more likely to do some good at getting traffic, even if it doesn't help with SEO because the forum is mostly password protected anyway, is to actually participate in the forum (imagine that).

People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. :D

My friend Fred, a talented blogger, asked me for advice the other day. Here's a partial answer, with a few apologies to Swift: (and when you're done with this list, feel free to read my post about shark attacks).

1. Use lists.
2. Be topical... write posts that need to be read right now.
3. Learn enough to become the expert in your field.
4. Break news.
5. Be timeless... write posts that will be readable in a year.
6. Be among the first with a great blog on your topic, then encourage others to blog on the same topic.
7. Share your expertise generously so people recognize it and depend on you.
8. Announce news.
9. Write short, pithy posts.
10. Encourage your readers to help you manipulate the technorati top blog list.

Above tips are really crucial and possibly effective for create traffic from blogs. Hosting your blog on a different domain from your primary site is one of the worst mistakes you can make. The best advice I can give is to think of the post from the standpoint of a relatively uninformed reader.

My wife and I own the web design firm Little Blue Box, and this is one of the biggest questions we've come across from clients and regular consultees for the past 9 years. The truth is getting traffic to your struggling site mainly needs one long term strategy, and that is to build great content, update it weekly or daily if possible, and earn quality links back to that great content. The problem is people want to get links from forums and blogs back to their sites, but with all do respect their sites are lacking severely in quality. Who wants to link back to crap content or visually unpleasant looking site?

The linkback shortcuts are very short term. Put a link in your forum signature with useless irrelevant posts over it and it might get removed over time. Comment spam on blogs across the board and that link too will get removed or NOFOLLOWED. There goes all your hard spent effort to create crap.

I had to revive this post for those who are shopping around trying to figure out how to get that traffic to their blog sites. I've had my startup business blog/business community for three years and it took a lot of work writing all that helpful content. Just post and create quality stuff people. Someone will like it and link to it, or you'll earn yourself the links from forums and blogs if you post good things there too.

I just gave your FB page a nice Like Wallflower. Checked out your site and blog. Amazing logo, you should totally have that as your profile pic or avatar here on SV forum. I'll sit down later and read through your content more later. It's been a very busy day as always. I can't wait for the dark to come. My wife and I are total secret astronomy buffs, we just don't write about it much. Just observe and take in the universe's wonder :-)

Hope you had fun watching the stars!
