I picked it up at WalMart just last night. It's called "The Seven Secrets - (Unlocking Genuine Greatness)". Written by John Hagee (yep, the preacher from San Antonio).

I've read just a few pages, but am so far, completely BLOWN AWAY.

From the back cover:
"... In this helpful handbook for living well and wisely, you will learn how to:
- Identify the true meaning of success
- Follow the right goals
- Submit to divine authority
- Break free from circumstances
- Give life your all
- Use attitude, perserverance, self-esteem, self-mastery, communication, prosperity, and prayer to lead you into success."

Some great quotes from the first several pages:

"You cannot possess what you will not pursue."

"The world is not interested in the storms you encountered, they want to know: Did you bring in the ship?"

"The secret of success is to do the common things uncommonly well."

"By perserverance the snail reached the ark."

"Falling down doesn't make you a failure, but staying down does."

Can't wait to read more and to hear others' feedback.

My quest for success has taken me on an incredible journey. I have determined that while the vehicle (business opportunity) for success is important, the most vital key to my success (or anyone's success) is the gray matter residing between one's ears.

In recent weeks, I have been blessed by two incredible new resources. Both came from Wal-Mart and collectively cost just over thirty bucks!

The first is a very good new book by Dr. Wayne Dyer, called the POWER OF INTENTION. An excellent book for training and developing the mind.

The second has been a life-changing book that cost about $15! "THE SEVEN SECRETS (Unlocking Genuine Greatness)" by John Hagee. Here is a short passage from chapter two, where he begins discussing the first of the seven secrets.

"You are a king or queen in a kingdom of unlimited power and potential; your mind. Your ability to achieve a life of staggering successess or live a life of unspeakable squalor and disappointment depends on one single choice.

That choice is made every hour of every day you live.

That single choice determines your joy, your peace, the quality of your marriage, your professional success, the happiness and well-being of your children, and most importantly, the destiny of your soul.

That single choice will determine your stress factor. It will determine your ability to turn hate into love, rejection into accomplishment, and fear into triumph.

That single choice is: HOW YOU CHOOSE TO REACT TO WHAT HAS BEEN DONE TO YOU IN THE PAST OR IS BEING DONE TO YOU RIGHT NOW. Your attitude will determine your success in life.

.... Let me give you my definition of an attitude in a series of four statements:

1. Your attitude is an inward feeling expressed by outward behavior. (Your attitude is seen by all without you saying a word).
2. Your attitude is the advance man of your true self. (The roots of your attitude are hidden, but its fruit is always visible).
3. Your attitude is your best friend or your worst enemy. (It draws people to you or repels people from you).
4. Your attitude determines the quality of your relationships with your husband, your wife, your children, your employer, your friends, and God Almighty.

However, attitudes do not have to be permanent. Choose to change your attitude right now. Consider adopting these seven secrets of a good attitude:

1. Your attitude is a choice.
2. Your attitude determines your attainments.
3. Your attitude determines your emotional health.
4. Your attitude overcomes adversity.
5. Your attitude determines THEIR attitude.
6. Your attitude is contagious.
7. Your attitude can overcome any disability.

You are the absolute soverign over a kingdom of unlimited resources -- your mind. You and you alone determine your destiny by the choice of your attitudes."

-- Excerpts from "THE SEVEN SECRETS (Unlocking Genuine Greatness)" By John Hagee. Published 2004 by Charisma House, Lake Mary, Florida

Can you tell us a little more about POWER OF INTENTION?

I've heard of Dyer, I think he has written lots and lots of books. But this one seems to be a big hit, because I keep hearing about it...I guess I will have to get a copy.

Dr. Wayne Dyer has been in the motivational speaking/writing business for many years. Some of his more noteworthy books include: "Your Erroneous Zones", "The Sky's the Limit", "Real Magic", "10 Secrets to Success and Inner Peace", "Staying on the Path", and "There is a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem".

The bookplate says this:

"... Dr. Wayne Dyer has researched intention as a force in the universe that allows the act of creation to take place. This book explore intention -- not as something you do -- but as an energy you're a part of. We're all intended here through the invisible power of intention. This is the first book to look at intention as a field of energy you can access to begin co-creating your life.

"Part I deals with the principles of intention, offering true stories and examples showing how to make the connection. Dr. Dyer identifies the attributes of the all-creating universal mind of intention as creative, kind, loving, beautiful, expanding, endlessly abundant, and receptive, explaining the importance of emulating this source of creativity.

" In Part II, Dr. Dyer offers an intention gude with specific ways to apply the co-creating principles in daily life. Part III is an exhilarating description of Dr. Dyer's vision of an individual connected at all times to the universal mind of intention."

I'll be able to give a book report as I journey through the book beyond the introductory chapters.

Jon,

Yeah, thanks for all the thorough information. I don't even have to buy the book now. Seems like the book has lots of philosophical/psychological tips on how to improve your life, but does the book also offer practical tips?

Thanks.

Antiphrasis:
If you are referring to the "Seven Secrets" book, my answer is yes. I think it offers much practical advice. Here is an example:

"Listen up! You need to take charge of your life or someone else will. If you don't accepts responsibility for yourself, there is no hope. Why? Because change is not possible until you accept responsibility for yourself. If you empower other people to control your destiny, there is no change. You cannot change them. You can only change yourself.

... Let me urge you to take charge of your thoughts, your marriage, your future, your destiny, and your eternal soul. Your attitude can overcome diversity."

I suppose a fitting subtitle for this book might be "Managing Your Attitude". It all seems to come full circle back to 'attitude'.
