View Full Version : Getting full time work
shaun 07-05-2010, 07:56 PM Hi,
The challenge is as the title suggests. Ive been out of work for far too long. Say over a year. It isnt great. I now find the whole process very confronting. Particularly interviews. My only real requirement is that any job i get pays per hour.
I might post some updates. I'm not really sure how to go about it though. Hopefully i'll be checking back in the future with (kind of) interesting stories anyway. If nothing else
sarahgop 07-05-2010, 08:04 PM what type of work are you looking for? are you having a hard time with bills?
shaun 07-05-2010, 09:17 PM Something relatively simple, or at least a job that sounds achievable. So office work, customer service or maybe even telemarketing would all be fine. Ive moved back home which has helped with bills.
Seeing as i seem so blaze about what job i get, i think pay might be more important to me at this stage. Its hard to tell. Ideally a job i could just walk into, but they dont seem into exist... *wonders why*
genghis707 07-05-2010, 10:45 PM How old are you? Do you have a degree? What is your "ideal" job? How many resumes do you put out a day?
tigerbunny 07-06-2010, 01:11 AM Hey Shaun,
Welcome to the Vibe. :)
How about temp work? (temporary) There are lots of agencies, and they have office work and other stuff. It's often entry level, but it gives you experience, confidence, all kinds of things. Usually, the people you're working for are in a jam, so you get to be the hero, coming in to help out. Sometimes, you can get a regular gig from doing temp work. It's my personal favorite, I did it a lot when I was in my twenties (and some later too).
:cheerlead:
extra 07-06-2010, 02:18 AM I will be straightforward. Start your home based business, internet business, small business, whatever...! It's not hard as it seems. Do not waste your time.
Look for opportunities around. Learn new things. Maybe it's a sign that you can't find job you want. Job you want is not necessarily you need.
Good luck!
Stuart@AMO 07-06-2010, 03:25 AM Hey Shaun,
don't wait for a job to come to you. Work out kind of job you really want and suited to and list what companies are in your area and contact them direct.
Don't get derflated if you get knock backs with each call your confidence will grow with each call/ email. Going direct is a great first impression, you can improve your chances enormously and you would be saving your potential new employer a packet in job advertisment. Be relentless! Just make sure your resume (CV) is up to date and professional and refects you in your best light.
If you going for a job with no experience, thats fine. Just state your desire to get into that industry and that {the company} is the ideal place to do that.
Blockade Runner 07-07-2010, 10:42 PM The best thing to do is to get on with a lesser company, learn/make mistakes in the job you're performing with the lowest company in the industry. Then start beating the pavement with the better companies in the same industry. You will be able to walk right in and do the job, or do whatever they ask you to do, to get permanent full-time hourly there, since that's what you want. I'm thinkin this will take you 3-4 years to accomplish.
You also, quite frankly, have to know someone highly reputable within one of the leading companies in the industry you seek to work in, when the time comes for you to jump ship from the lesser company. You have to be loving and honest, even when those around you are not loving and honest, amongst cursing, lying, wayward, thieving, sick people that are usually found in the lesser company.
byesadness 07-09-2010, 02:15 AM I think there are lots of work out there. Just do not limit yourself as to what type of job you will cater. It is recession time and everyone feels it. Get any job that would help you temporarily. If you do not have a degree, it would be better if you will get one first to be more competitive.
kahuna 07-13-2010, 01:01 PM Maybe the problem is that you haven't enjoyed the jobs you've worked at in the past, and you're projecting your past experiences onto your motivations for finding a new job. What do you love doing? Is there one thing that you would do for free, and getting paid would be a bonus?
v_shinyjourney 08-09-2010, 01:20 AM Hi Shaun,
I think your problem is that you have a lack of self esteem and that make you really stressed about is job seeking.
It's hard to find a job and find people to trust you when you're not aware on your abilities.
Does that make sense to you?
If yes, i can go much further on this to help you.

Caria 09-02-2010, 08:37 AM Hi,
There are jobs out there.. You need to stay positive... My previous job, i hated with a passion, but just the one night i was talking to a friend and i met someone with his own business, and i got the job with them, dreams do come true.. you just need to see it, the doors unlock, you just need to go in...
There are also jobs that you can have, which don't take a lot of time and you can work from home... but as i said, the doors are unlock, you just need to open it!
