I don't think I have ever felt that way about any job in my life. I wish I could be passionate about what I do, I think I was at one point but I lost it.... can't seem to find it.
I don't think I have ever felt that way about any job in my life. I wish I could be passionate about what I do, I think I was at one point but I lost it.... can't seem to find it.
But You CAN FIND IT. And when you do, O M G ... You will be unstoppable.
For me... All I did was change my mindset. I know a lot about Real Estate, that's what I always associated me as being; A Real Estate Guy (Hence the name ;p)
But it wasn't fun... Then I just changed my mindset to something I always enjoyed doing. Which was being an Entrepreneur. Which unleashed everything for me. I wasn't "stuck" as the RE guy anymore. I was now something different. Now I was an Entrepreneur, A business guy. I loved that. That's where I subconsciously wanted to be. Now everything is opened up. I'm still in Real Estate, but above all else, I'm an Entrepreneur.
A fun little thing that happened to me today. For the past couple years I have wanted to raise money to invest in Complexes and things like that. But never could (Never knew why I couldn't put it together)
BUT... Now that I am Business dude, It's different.
I had a client contact me yesterday telling me he had 600k cash and was looking to create some equity positions with his cash (Basically making his money work for him), I called him today and he wants to start investing WITH me on some projects I have my eye on out in Phoenix and Pittsburgh. The awesome thing is I don't really have to bring anything to the table. The commissions I get from the sales of each property are going directly back into the investment as my contributions. NO WAY I could of done that as just a Real Estate Guy. I can't explain it and I can't articullate the words to bring meaning to it. It just is what it is.
You can do the same thing. I don't know what you like to do, or what you have passion for, but find it. It might be something so small, like a mindset change or something like that. Maybe even viewing things in a different light. IDK. But I do know, life gets SUBSTANTIALLY easier when you really enjoy what you're doing.
I feel like a kid again. The stress load is gone. Sure it creeps up, but for the most part, it's not there.

Well, my main passions in life are just dreams right now.
As for my job, I do medical billing, Acct receivable/payable, managerial work. I worked in an office with a group of girls. I enjoyed my job except for the billing but it didn't bother me much.
We moved into a bigger building and my boss gave me my own office, I still do some accts payable/receivable but most of the managerial work was given to a couple of other girls so I can concentrate more on the billing. At first I thought this was going to be great... my own office away from everyone but then I realized that the work he took away was what I enjoyed. I honestly don't want it back because the billing is very time consuming in itself. So, now I need to change my mindset and I have been trying to figure out how to do this. I have been looking for motivational posters for my wall.... haven't purchased anything yet though. I made my office really pretty... did nothing for my mind, lol.
So Bry, did you have to change your mindset or was the job itself enough to give you passion?
Hey Joanne, I hope you can find some form of passion in your work. There are some things you can focus on.. In my opinion anyways.
Well the thing that first changed for me was my mindset, then the change in job after that.
In the beginning, I got into a rut by just selling investment real estate. We all know that real estate isn't the hottest of professions to be in.. so.. it was rough. But it was just un-satisfactory. I was just selling to make a living. I had my processes and little flow lines and that was all well and fine. But it was boring and worst of all... it was getting me depressed.
So when I changed my operating basis to being an entrepreneur, I suddenly wanted to start building something bigger than what I had in place. More properties, more sales, more personal investing, more plans for other business ventures, etc. See, all I did was change who I THOUGHT I was. I went from being just a Real Estate Guy... to a Business guy. Someone who went from being lazy and depressed, to someone who desires to build up this company and other ventures and im happier now.
As long as I keep a reminder of the person I REALLY am... I stay on point. The moment I drift back to "The Real Estate Guy", I start to get a little depressed. I guess it's an internal alarm button that tells when I am "off" my purpose.
I have said it many times before on this site... I have searched and searched and searched for something to help me better myself. And all I had to do was change my focus just a little.
I think Tony Robbins talks about that. His analogy was something like how a golfer can be as little as a millimeter off when he strikes the ball and it goes wide left or wide right. But when he is dead on accurate, the ball flys perfect.
It's really the same with passion and purpose. When you're dead-on accurate you know it, you feel it, you see the results. And when you're off, even a little... things just don't flow for you, you seem off.
I hope that helps.

Here's another view on the whole "Follow Your Passion" thing .....
Dont Follow Your Passion, Follow Your Effort

I hear it all the time from people. “I’m passionate about it.” “I’m not going to quit, It’s my passion”. Or I hear it as advice to students and others to “Follow your passion”.
What a bunch of BS. ”Follow Your Passion” is easily the worst advice you could ever give or get.
Why ? Because everyone is passionate about something. Usually more than 1 thing. We are born with it. There are always going to be things we love to do. That we dream about doing. That we really really want to do with our lives. Those passions aren’t worth a nickel.
Think about all the things you have been passionate about in your life. Think about all those passions that you considered making a career out of or building a company around. How many were/are there ? Why did you bounce from one to another ? Why were you not able to make a career or business out of any of those passions ? Or if you have been able to have some success, what was the key to the success.? Was it the passion or the effort you put in to your job or company ?
If you really want to know where you destiny lies, look at where you apply your time.
Time is the most valuable asset you don’t own. You may or may not realize it yet, but how you use or don’t use your time is going to be the best indication of where your future is going to take you.
Let me make this as clear as possible
1. When you work hard at something you become good at it.
2. When you become good at doing something, you will enjoy it more.
3. When you enjoy doing something, there is a very good chance you will become passionate or more passionate about it
4. When you are good at something, passionate and work even harder to excel and be the best at it, good things happen.
Don’t follow your passions, follow your effort. It will lead you to your passions and to success, however you define it.
Mark Cuban has done pretty good for himself by following this set of principles regarding "passion."
Is there more to "it" that this? Sure there is, but don't assume you need to wait for passion to come to you. You can decide to go for it, and as Mark suggests, you have a very good chance "passion" will follow.

Why don't you petition Scooter to change your ScreenName to "The BizGuy" or something similar? So, it's really much more than just "passion," right? So far in this thread, you've identified or mentioned or alluded toI have said it many times before on this site... I have searched and searched and searched for something to help me better myself. And all I had to do was change my focus just a little.

Passion
Focus
Effort
Action
Mechanics
Mindset
Purpose
Of these seven, I think MindSet is probably the biggest influence because it will guide Actions, but all six are inextricably linked and twined. Some might use a different descriptor word for a couple of these, but THESE are absolutely essential to ANY level of Success, whether it be in Business, or Play, or Relationship, or Health/Wellness/Fitness, and any other area of Life.
If I were to rank these seven, I would place MindSet and Purpose at the top, but in reality, all are important and essential because they are all intertwined with creating the Results one wants.

I don't care for Mark Cuban. Didn't care about him during the NBA finals when he was doing press interviews on his elliptical machine and taking the focus away from his team (Major blunder), I didn't care about him being court-side arguing during those games and getting kicked out (A first for an owner), I didn't care about him trying to by the dodgers and cubs (David Stern blocked him from buying, said he was bad for the game), and I didn't care about him voicing out against a trade that would of sent Chris Paul to the Lakers (He was acting like a baby).
The guy has made a lot of blunders and is known for sticking his foot in his mouth. I certainly would't listen to anything he has to say about passion or anything else.
Although it's true that the harder you work at something, the better you get. That doesn't always mean you enjoy it more and develop a passion for it.
He obviously had a passion for what he was doing, which is why he did it.

Actually, he kinda stumbled into something that worked, and he happened to be good at, and took it from there. He developed his passion, not found or refound it.
But I'm curious, because you keep using that word as it's the end-all be-all of success ..... did you ever define what "passion" means?

I don't have to..... I know what happened and what worked for me. I saw myself changed by doing something I loved. If that's not what passion is, than I don't want to know.
As of right now... I'm still rolling and I like where I'm headed. For the first time in a very long time Im passionate and enthusiastic about my work, my life and everything in it.
I don't need to break it down and try to get a better understanding of it.
Like my Grandpa used to say "If It aint broke...... Leave it the hell alone".
I don't need to try to figure out if it's passion, or if it's purpose or mindset or whatever else and what specific order those things are in. Honestly, I could care less.
I appreciate your replies, but in all honesty, there is no point debating what is what here. It really doesn't matter how or what brought me to this point. Only that I am here.
