Default Looking like myself again

I've lost almost 15 pounds with weight watchers. Not only do i have more energy, feel more responsible and relieved that I CAN do something about my weight, I'm starting to look like myself again. I don't end up deleting every photo of me taken. There are a few that look like me, for once.

It's making me feel like maybe there are other things in my life i'm unhappy with that I could start to make a change for the better, little by little.

I've tried a lot of different diets and finally found one that worked for me, after years and years. So just keep trying!

P.S I think the word 'try' is so inadequate. sometimes you put so much effort into something, it's more summed up in the word 'audition' when the out of work actor or actress wants that part more than anything, than it is summed up in the word that can be used to also describe a half-hearted testing, or throwing things out there.

did you ever think of deleting the word "try" from your vocabulary?

how about using the word "do" instead? using conditional words gives you an excuse for failure.

no, it never occurred to me.

Sometimes, even though you are committed to a goal, you may not be locked into a full time contract with one method. Sometimes it's good to move on to the next idea when plan A isn't working for you. Course, sometimes it's hard to tell if it's not working for you, or if you're not working for it.

That's one of my favorite quotes by Yoda! Yoda ROCKS.

Hi Solace,

Congrats on losing 15lbs! That's awesome!!

"Keep trying" is one way to put it.... or I always like to say "never give up!"

your response suggests that you are not hearing me exactly as I would want to be heard so I will rephrase.

trying is where you have a goal... losing weight but keep giving up on your goal for one reason or another.

doing is when you have a goal...giving up smoking for example, that is a total commitment to achieve an outcome by any and all means no matter what the obstacles are.

I tried to give up smoking for 25 years. it was only when I cut myself off from the past and became 100% commited to the outcome of being healthy that I achieved the goal and I have not had a cigarette since 7th June 1996.

once I had decided and turned my back on the past it was easy and pain free. never had a single regret or struggle.
that is the difference, that is the power of words. the power of decision and the power of physiological and psychological commitment.

Thanks for clarifying Phillip. Sometimes the words, thoughts and motivation all seem to be there... but nothing happens. Maybe it's that they aren't co-ordinated or whatever. But other times it just clicks, and I realize i'm really committed and then I start to see results. So I think I understand, at least partly.

I'm glad to hear it! That it turned out well. Often commitment is a huge part of it. But I don't think that it is always easy and pain free to commit to changing something for the better. Often it takes effort and ends up hurting a great deal, but it's worth it in the end. Food for thought.

And the "Do or do not... do not try" thing. It has some truth to it. But what I mentioned earlier about the auditioning thing... Sometimes you put your all into it and it doesn't turn out the way you expected. it doesn't work, and no amount of positive thinking is going to make a difference... at this point in your life. Maybe you'll come back and give it another go, but for now your energy is drained.

Probably another 30, unfortunately. But i'm plugging along with the small goals. My goal for this week: one pound.

Three ways i'm going to do this:
eat more veggies
drink enough water
stay within my points allotment
