Default 52 Days for KG

Why are you taking part in this 52 day challenge and on a scale of 1-10 how committed are you to succeeding in the goals that you have set yourself in this challenge?

I will participate because I have some long-festering but very important issues that I have repeatedly back-burnered which I now realize are pushing off significant goals on a day-for-day slip.

I am committed, period.

As posted in the original, due to the sensitive nature of the subject matter I will be somewhat vague in my posts occasionally, but I will fully participate.

Actions for Day 52:

- Locate registration and insurance for RV in preparation for move to next stay (San Diego law does not allow indefinite stays at RV parks).

I have to move next month and each Park requires registration, Insurance and a current tag to move in, I have managed to misplace this and am needing new tag sticker from my buddy in AZ.

- Follow-up on important e-mail/request for certain effort.

Have been putting this off since last Fall, sent e-mail requesting certain info 2 weeks ago, time to follow-up

- Follow-up with FAA about request for copy of medical records so I can start flying again

Have requested this info 3 times now with no response - need to check with WifeyGrande and see if they sent it to the house instead

Adding one new item, now that my arm feels better I will work-out tonight too.

I will re-use my Total-Gym workout plan to get started.

You and me both Bud. I've not really made them part of my challenge, but I can def. relate to this feeling and there are things I am working on, off board that are similar in description too. Good job for recognizing it and stepping up John!

Done, left yet another voicemail, can't seem to talk to beaurocrats when you need their help, but the IRS has no trouble finding me - tell me that's fair

Thanks guys.

I am feeling good JoJo, pleasantly sore.

Learned I am going back to Japan in a couple weeks, for a week of meeting.

Day 51
a) What habits do you already have that support your goals for the 52 day challenge?

- Ability to drive myself to do things when they need done

- Ability to organize/plan

- Ability/desire to follow-up when publicly committed

b) What habits do you already have that take you away from your goals for the 52 day challenge?

- The 'need' to 'relax' after work, this one is a lie, pure and simple - I learned that in spades last night - I worked out, looked for some missing stuff, ate, and still was able to watch Chuck and 24

- Fall back of doing nothing when I haven't broken a challenge into small enough pieces

c) What new habits could you cultivate that you don't already have that would support your goals for the 52 day challenge.

- Just do it

- Focus on what I gain/lose by accomplishing/putting off difficult or uncomfortable tasks - this is an area I have never been truly successful integrating this 'gut-level-association' technique into my approach to life with respect to ugly or tough things that need done

d) Choose one habit from a) or c) that you will commit to cultivating over the next 51 days.

- I will cultivate the gut-level-association technique described in C because I believe it is the missing link that is most able to help me overcome my recent laziness

e) Choose one habit from b) that you will commit to eliminating over the next 51 days.

- I will eliminate my habit of doing nothing when overwhelmed, it has cost me more in personal and economic terms than I can describe

OUTSTANDING question Paul, thanks for posting it.

I plan to use this thread to provide myself with some accountability as well as the questions and other elements.

Yesterday was a good day as I completed 3 of 4 tasks as defined, and made a good faith effort on the 4th.

Actions for Day 51 are:
- Look into new mountain bike

I accidentally damaged my old one during the drive to San Diego. I need a bike so I can add some cardio/outdoor exercise to my fitness plan, I live about 1/2 mile from the beach right now and don't go often enough. My leg doesn't stand up well to conventional cardio, and I used to bike all the time - California is very bike friendly, so I have chosen biking to be my cardio/outdoor exercise.

- Push to get a friend some work

A good frined is recovering from back surgery and was let go for being on disability too long, he and his wife have ongoing health issues but he is a good guy and a very solid engineer - I need the help so I broached the subject with my managament yesterday and forwarded his resume. I will push to get him on ASAP part-time remote work.

- Webcam with WifeyGrande and DaughterGrande tonight

Haven't done it in a while although I talk to them regularly. Due to the Japan trip and overall workload, I won't get back to ABQ until mid-march at the earliest and I need to stay connected.

- Follow-up on yesterday - I will check my storage boxes for the paperwork I was not able to find yesterday.

Day 50
a) Can you think of one, two or three goals or projects you have successfully pursued in the past where you had to focus on the goal or project pretty much each day until you completed it or crossed the finishing line?

- Earning my Pilot's License

- Getting Married

- Shutting down the Sign and Graphics Company

b) Supplementary question. What can you learn from those experiences and apply to your life in this challenge?

- Earning my Pilot's License - You need time, good weather, and money, on any day you want to fly, and the lack of any one can prevent flying that day, but you can still study, still practice procedures, still quiz yourself. In other words, just because things aren't perfect it doesn't mean you can't move ahead.

- Getting Married - The preparation was stressful as is the stereotype, but the result was a beautiful day for WifeyGrande. In the end, all of the little fights, late nights, and compromises were worth it.

- Shutting down the Sign and Graphics Company, strange pick huh? I picked this one because there are several lessons for me and possibly others here.

This was one of the most difficult things I have ever done, because it meant I had to admit, to myself and everyone else, that I had failed and that was unbelievably difficult - although I have come a long way since, it is still a painful memory, and is still having significant impact on our lives. Doing it in a rational way though required making a plan and then sticking to it. I had to put the hurt and disappointment aside in order to put an end to the financial bleeding and to reclaim a portion of my life.

Great questions so far Paul.

Did not arrange the webcam but spoke to both yesterday

I did not follow-up on the missing RV paperwork and have added a new one, now I appear to have misplaced the registration for my new Jeep.

Actions for Day 50:
- RV and Jeep paperwork - Find this and put the issue to bed

- Get new prosthesis fitted

This has been dragging on for ever (started in June) with a combination of me moving around (San Jose, Salt Lake City, San Diego) and delays from the shop building the leg. Appointment is at 10:00 AM, so this will be hopefully be completed in a few hours.

- Workout

Still pleasantly sore from my first workout in months on Monday, will do a full 2 set workout tonight.

My workout is a whole body workout, and since Monday was the first in a while I did 1 set of the exercise which are between 10 and 20 reps each.

Tonight will be 2 sets. It is a modified circuit training approach using the Total Gym I keep in the RV.

Probably in about a month I'll move to splits and workout 5/6 days a week. Keeping it holistic for now to get back into the habit.

yeah, there is no right or wrong way. I was just curious. I have a hard time with whole body workouts. It takes me too long to recover!!

As an aside, over the past 2 weeks I have doubled my water intake and cut my caffeine and diet soda intake in half (essentially a 1-for-1 trade). I feel much better.
